Sunrise Anniversary in the Colorado Mountains

ANNIVERSARY — July 2023
Shelby and Parker didn’t get to have a traditional wedding or the photos that come with it. So five years later, they left Indiana and headed West for something even better.
Shelby had never seen the mountains. “It all looks like Mars to me,” she said. Even I was shocked as we pulled up to our chosen location, surrounded by peaks in every direction. It was the 4th of July, their wedding anniversary, and we had the space all to ourselves. Shelby slipped on her Birkenstocks and we began wandering.
Parker had brought a camera of his own to capture some behind-the-scenes footage for their daughter, who didn’t quite grasp why her parents were leaving home. I relish in the thought of her seeing her parents’ photos and reliving the magic with them one day.
After some slow dancing, champagne, and a little joint to celebrate, we drove down the mountain for some well-deserved lattes. I wished them well on the rest of their journey, both in Colorado and with each other.
